Who we are

Silk Route is a Cape Town private chauffeur service. For the personal information described in this notice, Silk Route is the responsible party: it decides why and how that information is handled.

This notice applies when you use this website, request a quotation, contact Silk Route by telephone or WhatsApp, or arrange a chauffeur journey.

Information we handle

We collect only the information reasonably needed to respond to you and plan the requested service. Depending on your enquiry or booking, this may include:

• Your name, email address, telephone or WhatsApp number.
• Journey details such as date, time, collection point, destination, Google Place identifier or coordinates, passenger count, luggage, flight information, stops and special requirements.
• Messages, quotation details, booking confirmations and service-related correspondence.
• Payment and transaction records where a booking requires payment. Payment card details should be handled by the payment provider and are not requested through this website form.
• Limited technical records that a web host or security provider may create, such as an IP address, browser type, request time and pages requested.

Why we use it

Personal information is used to:

• Respond to an enquiry, prepare a quotation and confirm availability.
• Plan, provide and communicate about the chauffeur service you request.
• Coordinate collection, flight changes, itinerary updates and passenger requirements.
• Process or reconcile payments and maintain records required for tax, accounting, complaints or legal obligations.
• Protect passengers, personnel, vehicles, communications and the website against misuse or security risks.
• Improve service quality using feedback and operational learning.

We process information when it is necessary to take steps you request, perform an agreed booking, meet a legal duty, pursue a legitimate operational interest that does not unfairly override your rights, or where you have given consent.

When information is shared

Silk Route does not sell personal information. It may be shared only where reasonably necessary with a chauffeur or service provider involved in your journey; payment, communications, hosting or professional service providers; a hotel, travel arranger or concierge acting on your instructions; or an authority where disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect lawful rights.

Google Maps, WhatsApp and external services

When location suggestions are available, Google Maps Platform processes the location search and selected place under the Google Privacy Policy. If you choose WhatsApp, your use of that service is governed by WhatsApp and Meta's own privacy terms. These providers, web-hosting providers or other technology services may process information outside South Africa. Where cross-border processing occurs, Silk Route will use providers and arrangements reasonably intended to protect the information as required by applicable law.

Please do not send identity documents, payment card details or sensitive medical information through an ordinary website or WhatsApp message unless Silk Route has asked for it and confirmed an appropriate method.

Optional website analytics

With your consent, Google Analytics processes page visits, basic device and referral information, and phone, WhatsApp and enquiry-preparation events to help us understand website use. Google receives technical network information when the tag loads and may process data outside South Africa under the Google Privacy Policy. Booking-form contents and WhatsApp message text are not sent to Analytics. Advertising features are disabled. An enquiry-preparation event is not proof of a sent message or confirmed booking.

You may reject analytics without affecting the website or booking form, and withdraw your choice through Cookie settings in the footer. See the Cookie Notice for storage details.

Retention and security

Information is kept only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, an agreed service, a lawful business need, or a legal, tax, accounting or dispute-resolution requirement. When it is no longer authorised or required, it will be deleted, destroyed or de-identified as reasonably practicable.

Silk Route uses reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the information and the way it is handled. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure, so you should also use care when choosing what to send electronically.

Your choices and rights

Subject to the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) and other applicable law, you may ask whether Silk Route holds personal information about you, request access to it, ask for inaccurate information to be corrected, request deletion where retention is no longer authorised, object to certain processing, or withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing.

We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request and may retain information where the law permits or requires it. If a concern is not resolved, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator South Africa.
